DESCRIPTION OF THE STATE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY IN BUILT UP AREAS BY MEANS OF POSTCODES

BESKRIVNING AV TRAFIKSAEKERHETSLAEGET I STOERRE TAETORTER MED HJAELP AV POSTNUMMER

This report is intended to influence the content of the accident statistics with a view to making the statistics more useful for descriptions of accident risks in parts of densely built-up areas, for inhabitants in different kinds of residential districts or for different road user categories. The stated wishes rely on the use of the postcode system with a view to connecting occurred accidents to different spatial divisions of built-up areas and to the home addresses of those involved. The postcode makes it possible to obtain data for different residential areas, e.g. Number of inhabitants, number of households, number of vehicle owners, kind of buildings. The wishes are the following (a) the statistics are completed with postcode of the scene of the accident, (b) the statistics are completed with postcode of home address of involved moped riders, cyclists and pedestrians, (C) civic registration number is also given for slightly injured persons. In the report is shown the postcode system, how the postcode system is used for calculation of motor-car insurance premiums and how the state of traffic safety in built-up areas can be described with help of postcodes. Further a test is shown where accidents with badly injured and killed in 11 built-up areas in 1978 were analyzed with help of postcodes. (TRRL)
