A tanker ship-model crash stop and emergency collision avoidance maneuvering are researched theoretically and experimentally. The results are as follows; 1) theoretical crash stop calculations are possible if adequate estimation of backing thrust can be determined; 2) to protect the stall of rudder at large helm angle, the usefullness of rudder with rotor and water jet rudder with rotor and water jet rudder is ascertained. On the advance, the deduction of one ship length and nearly zero turning radius are gained for those of ordinary rudders at 35 degrees and 3) for emergency steering avoidance the adaptation of water jet rudder etc. is usefull as it is unnecessary to continue reverse engine stopping and at the same time it is possible to reduce the amount of advance.
