This study discusses the effect on the demand for railway passenger transport of changes in income, travel time, prices and reduced fares. An econometric approach has been used. The results are relevant for long distance travel where the train is competing with the airplane. The statistical analysis is based on Norwegian data, including more than one thousand observations during the years 1974-1981.
