NFIRS: NATIONAL FIRE INCIDENT REPORTING SYSTEM DATA BASE. MASTER FILE

The U.S. Fire Administration established the National Fire Incident Reporting System for the collection of fire incident and fire casualty data on a nationwide basis. NFIRS is the center of the National Fire Data Center's program which has as one of its primary goals assisting state and local governments and other critical groups in the development of their own fire data systems, and in the use and interpretation of their data. NFIRS contributes to the second major goal of the Data Center, as well; this is to determine the magnitude and characteristics of the U.S. fire problem in sufficient detail and accuracy to guide fire protection decisions of various levels of government and the private sector, and help identify solutions to the problems identified. The NFIRS data contains two files the first is the Master File and the second is the Incident and Equipment/Casualty Report Files.
