TRAVEL TO WORK IN BRITAIN: A SELECTIVE REVIEW (1978)

This report presents information about the changing pattern of the work-journey in Britain. Since 1950 a number of studies have been made of various aspects of the work-journey including modal split, spatial distribution of residences and workplaces and broad patterns of movement. These studies are reviewed briefly in this report. The information obtained from the literature review is supplemented with 1975/76 national travel survey data giving modal split, journey length and time for different socio-economic groups.
