An Effective Routing Model for Collection and Transportation of Solid Waste in Bengaluru South

A systematic collection and effective routing system of waste transportation gives a well-organized solid waste management. If the routes are planned effectively, the length of the collection routes can be minimized which leads to cost efficiency and time saving. This work focuses on the efficient design and development of a system of collection, storage, and disposal plan for urban areas. A GIS based routing model is proposed for a single ward of 2.15 km2 in South Bengaluru. This model considers the distance, time, and cost reduction in collection and transportation paths for the solid waste management system. The proposed model takes into account the information collected on the waste generated, population density, types of roads and vehicle for transportation, and the existing method of collection and segregation system. Based on the data, efficient routing for the transport of waste along with the introduction of new collection points is proposed.
