CRASHWORTHINESS ANALYSIS WITH EMPHASIS ON THE FIRE HAZARD: U.S. & SELECTED FOREIGN TURBINE AIRCRAFT ACCIDENTS -1964-1974 (1976).

An analysis of 382 impact survivable turbine aircraft accidents and incidents that occurred from 1964 through 1974 was performed as part of an overall study of aircraft crashworthiness. Analysis indicated that 94.9 percent of the fatalities in U.S. aircarrier impact survivable accidents resulted when fire occurred. Fire was estimated to be the cause of 40 percent of the fatalities and of fatal injuries to 23.3 percent of the occupants. The status of FAA crashworthiness R&D programs is described.
