DRI ENERGY DATA BASE

The DRI energy data base contains approximately 20,000 time series detailing major energy sources and uses in the U.S., including information on fossil fuel supplies and demands, utility industry inputs and motor vehicle fuel consumption and usage. Data are available at one or more of four frequencies-annual, quarterly, monthly, or weekly. The Bureau of Mines is the primary source of series on production, stocks, imports, exports, internal movements, and consumption of fossil fuels, which are generally disaggregated to the state and/or P.A.D. district level. Fossil fuel data are available at all frequencies. The Bureau of Mines also provides annual data on all types of energy consumption by state by economic sector. Data on electric utilities are generally provided by the Federal Power Commission. Series on utility revenues, customers, and sales are available annually by state and economic sector, and series on plant capacity, electricity generation by fuel source, and fuel consumption, quality, and costs are available annually and monthly by state and census region. Statistics on gas utility revenues, customers, and sales by state and economic sector are obtained from the American Gas Association. The Federal Highway Administration is the source of data on registrations by vehicle type, miles travelled, drivers' licenses, and motor fuel consumption, available annually or monthly by state. In addition to the three major classifications of data described above, DB Energy contains information on heating and cooling degree days, published by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
