CARGO SECURITY REPORTING SYSTEM-AIR

This program was initiated to support the national cargo security program by acquiring and analyzing air carrier cargo security data and generating periodic reports on airline cargo security statistics. The Office of Transportation Security under the Assistant Secretary for Environment, Safety, and Consumer Affairs sponsors this program. Cab data have been compiled from 1974 to present. Data are updated on a quarterly basis. Information is extracted from form 239, schedule A and schedule B. Schedule A contains insurance-related data such as claims paid out and losses retrieved. Schedule B contains theft-related loss data (shortage, theft, hijacking, and pilferage). Data are also broken down by commodity and airports. Revenue data are obtained from CAB Form 41 from which the relevant freight operating revenue and gross freight operating profits are calculated. The report, Cargo Security Statistics, Air Carriers Time Series, is published quarterly by the reduction of computer printout in hardcopy. This report contains theft-related loss data, revenue, claims paid, and various ratios of interest. Cargo loss data are obtained from Civil Aeronautics Board data tapes (form 239). Additional revenue data are obtained from CAB Form 41 via the AAIMS Data Management System.
