CURRENT INDUSTRIAL REPORTS

Gives current statistics on commodity production and shipments for approximately 5000 products accounting for more than 1/3 of all u.s. Manufacturing. The series include monthly, quarterly, semiannual, and annual reports. Publication schedules vary for individual industries. All monthly and quarterly series include annual summaries. Data collected in this current and continuing program are later used in the inter-censal publication annual survey of manufacturers. The system of numbering commodity surveys in the current industrial reports series is designed to relate them closely to the Standard Industrial Classification followed in the 1954 and 1958 censuses of manufactures. In 1957, the system was revised and many reports were renumbered to adhere more closely to the SIC. The numbering system used on the published reports consists of 1) the letter M which has been used to designate manufactures, and since 1966 the designation MA for annual releases. 2) two digits which identify the principal Standard Industrial Classification major group to which the commodities included in the current industrial reports series are generally related, and 3) an alphabetic (or numeral-alphabetic) designation to identify uniquely such survey within the 2-digit group. Supersedes facts for industry. The reports concerning transportation subjects are: aircraft propellers, backlog of orders for aerospace companies, complete aircraft & aircraft engines, internal combustion engines, tractors, except garden tractors, truck trailers. Frequency--monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, & annual.
