Each record in the file contains totals of passengers with the same fare basis code flown by a carrier between the two domestic points of a ticket coupon segment for the quarter of the file date and the three immediately preceding quarters. (for files dated 4th quarter 1969 and earlier, each record contains similar totals for each of the seven preceding quarters, also.) within a record passenger totals are stored separately by direction (inbound or outbound) relative to the coupon origin. The fare basis codes may change from one quarter to the next. Records of the fare basis codes for each quarter of the passenger O and D survey are maintained by the Statistical Data Division, Bureau of Accounts and Statistics, CAB, if it becomes necessary for a user to decode this field. Beginning with 1972 the data are cross posted, meaning each city pair appears in the file twice, with each city as the base city once and the reference city in the other case. Source documents; the file is developed from the ticket O and D file. Information is a voluntary carrier submission. Publications; "Origin-Destination Survey of Airline Passenger Traffic (Domestic)" published by the Airline Finance and Accounting Conference, 1709 New York Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20006.
