STRUCTURAL RESPONSE OT EXPLOSIVE LOADS. SUMMARY OF EXPERIMENTS AND ANALYSIS

One of the main consequences from accidental explosions is the damage to structural members and process equipment. For deflagrations it is possible by design, arrangement and protective measures to reduce these consequences. In order to investigate the response from explosion loads and to test actual calculation methods, a number of strain measurements were included in the explosions test carried out by Veritas in cooperation with FBT in the project "Gas Explosions on Offshore Platforms". The measurements are compared with theoretical analysis and show good agreement. The conclusion of this part of the work is that existing calculation methods and computer codes are well suited for response analysis of compartments and modules on offshore platforms exposed to deflagrations.
