THE BURNING OF OIL IN WRECKED TANKERS: LARGE SCALE BURNING TEST
A test has been made of the burning characteristics of crude oil in a tank with sides six m long and with two vents, one in the roof and one high in one side. In conjunction with the results of previous tests using small models it is now possible to specify the conditions for the effective combustion of oil in the compartments of a wrecked tanker and to predict burning rates for a range of wind speeds.
