DESIGN METHODS FOR THIN-WALLED BOX COLUMNS

The interaction of local and euler buckling in an imperfect thin-walled box column produces an adverse effect on its strength. The analytical models of Van der Neut (1968), Gilbert and Callandine (1974), and De Wolf, Pekoz and Winter (1974) which account for interaction buckling are compared with tests performend by De Wolf et al. (1974) at Cornell. Proposed design methods of De Wolf et al. (1974), Walker (1975) and Little (1979) are compared with the Cornell tests. These design methods are also compared with tests performed by Skaloud and Zornerova in Czechoslovakia (1970) (A). (TRRL)
