SHOTCRETE. CONCRETE TECHNOLOGY AND TEST METHODS

The report considers some concrete-technology aspects of shotcrete together with some test methods intended to document qualities of uncured and cured shotcrete. Both the effects of accelerating agents on curing times and compressive strength development are investigated. Methods are developed to determine the water-cement ratio in fresh concrete mixes, the fineness modulus, the amount of mix rejected when applied to the rock surface, and the bonding between rock and shotcrete. From field tests it is shown that adding silicon dioxide-dust particles to the mix reduces the volume of mix rejected, making it possible to increase several times the layer thickness of shotcrete applied in one operation, as compared to possible layer thickness when accelerating agents are not used.
