Evaluation of Adhesion Properties of Crack Sealing Materials in Korea

Cracking in Asphalt Pavement occurs when a stress is built up in a surface layer that exceeds the tensile strength of the asphalt pavement causing a crack to open. Crack sealing is method which can be used to repair the crack in asphalt pavements. This paper presents the evaluation of adhesion characteristics of crack sealing materials currently applies in road repair in Korea. Based on adhesion properties, the adhesion properties of crack sealing materials will be compared with virgin asphalt binder’s bond strength. For this test, PATTI equipment is adopted to measure the pullout tensile strength or adhesion. As changed moisture conditions, the pullout bond strength will be evaluated and develop a guide line of crack sealing specification in Korea.
