Manual of Civil Aviation Medicine

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has published this manual in order to provide guidance on medical assessment of civil aviation personnel. The manual is designed for medical examiners, aviation medical experts, and medical assessors. It emphasizes the clinical situations usually experienced in medical certification, as well as complex borderline cases. The six parts of the manual cover: licensing practices; aviation physiology; medical assessment of the systems of the human body; aviation pathology; aviation medical training; and public health emergencies related to aviation. While the main purpose of the manual is to assist in decision-making on the medical fitness of civil aviation personnel, a secondary purpose is to serve as a textbook on theoretical and practical post-graduate training in aviation medicine.
