GRID SAMPLING AND COMPUTER MAPPING OF THE IVYBRIDGE AREA, DEVON

The broad aims of the project were to gain experience of using computers in soil survey, to learn to process information, to experiment in map presentation of soil data and to assess what changes to field survey are likely to be needed to take advantage of automation and the practicality of sample survey as a routine. The survey area selected was Ivybridge, a small town in South Devon, 16 km east of Plymouth. Details are given of the survey methods, in particular the handling of joint data, i.e. sample survey. data, and the associated problems and implications. (TRRL)
