A FULL-SCALE ROAD EXPERIMENT TO COMPARE THE PERFORMANCE OF "DELUGRIP", DENSE BITUMEN MACADAM AND ROLLED ASPHALT SURFACINGS: N22, CARRIGROHANE ROAD, CORK

This report gives details of a full-scale road experiment begun on N22, Carrigrohane Road, Cork, in 1976 to compare the durability and resistance to skidding of "delugrip" surfacings with the performance of dense bitumen macadam and rolled asphalt surfacings. The experiment comprises sixteen sections of surfacing. The composition, mixing and laying of the surfacings are described in the report. The report includes results of measurements of skid-resistance and surface texture depth, and observations of the general performance of the surfacings, up to 1978. The performance to date of all the surfacings has been satisfactory, but it is too early in the lives of the surfacings to draw firm conclusions concerning long-term performance. (TRRL)
