Application to the Pavement for Pedestrians of the Cold Mixture Using Felling Material

Recent year, the authors are requested establishing a sound-material cycle society. Especially in Japan, they are expected as construction waste of demolished building will be growing due to renewal for the infrastructure which is built during the era of “rapid economic growth”. Recycling of construction waste, especially construction woods is one of the missions for engineer. On the other hands, purpose and function for the pavement is not only for movement of people, transportation of goods, and disaster prevention, but also environmental preservation, harmony with nature, grace, and advanced technology such as user-friendly is required. This paper reports the development of pedestrian pavement uses wood chip as construction waste and asphalt emulsion. This construction system is not only for effective utilization of woods as construction waste, but also many advanced functions, such as having elasticity for comfortable walk, permeability, and lower environmental impact construction method with cold mixing system uses asphalt emulsion as a binder. This system is good for pedestrian walk, side walk, jogging road, and park open space. Furthermore, the trial with new idea of mix design which uses locally generated thinner timber and construction waste as raw materials will be described.
