An outline is presented of the parking situation in the different regions of the city of Rotterdam. It is concluded that on a short term provisions must be made for the construction of car parks, parking places, and parking garages. If the open spaces in the city are to be used as a free area, as a real part of the city, many cars should be removed from these open spaces. For this solution of the problems three alternatives are proposed. (1) the construction of big or mono-functional multi storey parking garages, (2) the construction of smaller or multi-functional garages, on the roof of which something else can be built (houses, offices) and (3) the construction of as many special parking places as possible by re-arrangement of the available space. Much attention is given to the problems of costs and financing of these provisions. For two regions the three solutions are compared. (TRRL)
