A CATEGORY ANALYSIS APPROACH TO ESTIMATING THE INFLUENCE OF DIAL-A-RIDE ON THE COMMUNITY OF OLD HARLOW
A dial-a-ride service started operations in Old Harlow in August 1974. This report analyses the findings of household-based travel surveys which were carried out before the service started and once it had "settled down". Much of the paper is concerned with setting up a valid methodological framework within which to effect this comparison of the data bases. The major conclusion is that the new mode has had little effect on the travel patterns of people living in the service area, but that one group - the elderly - does seem to be relying to a considerable extent on its novel features of doorstep pick-up and set-down.
