Special Crash Investigations On-Site SKT Guardrail End Treatment Crash Investigation Vehicle: 2004 Buick Century Location: Missouri Crash Date: August 2016

This report documents the on-site investigation of the crash of a 2004 Buick Century into a sequential kinking terminal (SKT) guardrail end treatment. The Buick was traveling south on a divided three-lane, limited-access highway on approach to an exit, when it departed the right side of the road and struck the guardrail end treatment. The SKT end terminal was displaced along a portion of the guardrail, which deformed the W-beam. The Buick separated from the guardrail and subsequently rolled over. The vehicle was on its top plane at final rest. The unbelted 25-year-old male driver and the unbelted 22-year-old female front row right occupant were injured as a result of the crash and transported by ambulances to a local hospital for treatment.
