RESIDENTIAL PARKING; LITERATURE SURVEY ON NEIGHBOURHOOD PARKING FACILITIES
STALLEN BIJ HET WONEN, EEN PARKEERTERREINVERKENNING
The continuing growth of car ownership causes a severe land use problem, especially in residential areas. Kerb side parking and parking lots no longer meet the demand for parking places. The redesign of the residential environment causes even less parking places to be available as a consequence of planned recreational facilities. A better solution is found in the general improvement areas where parking facilities are planned to make part of new blocks of houses. Solutions to parking problems in Amsterdam and Rotterdam are discussed. It is concluded that the Dutch Central Government should supply financial aid for the construction and operpation of residential parking.
