SOLUTIONS FOR LINE LOADS AND GENERALIZED STRIP LOADS APPLIED WITHIN ORTHORHOMBIC MEDIA

This paper presents solutions to the full range of load types applied to strip areas within orthorhombic elastic media. The six load types considered are: lateral force, longitudinal force, vertical force, opposing lateral shear stresses, moment about a vertical axis, and moment about a horizontal axis. The elastic medium may be a half space or a full space. Integral transform techniques are used to derive general solutions for all displacement and strain components. Loading stress distributions of the forms (1-X square) exp q and X(1-X square) exp t are of practical importance, and the solutions in these cases can be expressed in series form. The solutions for line loads are simple functions produced by introducing the Dirac delta function. The solutions produced have practical importance in soil and rock engineering problems that involve natural or man-made subsurface loadings or discontinuities.
