BUS ACCIDENT ANALYSIS 1978 - PERFORMANCE OF ANNA TRANSPORT CORPORATION LTD, SALEM

This second report in a series gives information on traffic accidents, classified as urban and rural, in which anna transport corporation buses were involved. Contributory factors, e.g. Bus driver responsibility, to the accidents are indicated as well as the number and various categories of road users killed and injured. The relation between accidents and bus drivers involved as regards their age, educational qualification and driving experience is identified. An analysis is made of vehicle age and frequency of involvement in accidents. The statistics are also analysed depotwise, in respect of accident rate per bus and million kilometres operated. Accident costs, covering loss of revenue, bus damages and victim compensation have been estimated approximately, indicating the amount that could be allocated to safety management. In conclusion the results of the investigation are summarised and recommendations for improving traffic safety are presented. (TRRL)
