DESIGN FOR THE EVALUATION OF FMVSS 208 USING POLICE BI-LEVEL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION
This report presents a plan for performing an evaluation of the effectiveness of the automatic restraint requirements of FMVSS 208 using the standard police accident report augmented with a special one page form. The supplemental form is presented and documented along with a detailed plan for its implementation. A pilot test of the form and the training package revealed some deficiencies in training. The basic conclusion drawn was that such an evaluation would be quite feasible and relatively cost-effective, given that these deficiencies were corrected.
