Assessing the Performance of Shield Tunnels Due to Corrosion Using Bayesian MCMC

One of the major factors affecting the performance of segmental linings is reinforcement corrosion, which cause structural stiffness degradation and the increase of the cross-section deformation, ultimately deteriorating the function of shield tunnels. In order to reasonably evaluate the safety of shield tunnel and adopt maintenance measures timely, a reasonable predictive model of cross-section deformation should be established first. In this paper, to predict cross-section deformation, the tunnel segment is modeled using uniform rigidity ring considering the bending stiffness degradation. According to the protection requirements of shield tunnel during operation, two performance functions are established to evaluate the reliability of shield tunnel based on deformation values. Bayesian updating is used herein to obtain the more reasonable reliability evaluation according to the true field monitoring data. The comparison between the theoretical and the monitoring data validates the proposed methodology.
