RESISTANCE OF BITUMINOUS MIXTURES TO PLASTIC DEFORMATION, STUDY BY MEANS OF A WHEEL TRACKING TEST IN THE LABORATORY

RESISTENCIA A LA DEFORMACION PLASTICA DE LAS MEZCLAS BITUMINOSAS POR MEDIO DE LA PISTA DE ENSAYO DE LABORATORIO

To study the resistance to plastic deformation of bituminous mixtures used in flexible pavements tests were undertaken to reproduce, in the mixtures to be studied, stresses similar to those caused by traffic. The wheel tracking test is adopted for use in Spain by adapting the conditions of manufacture and the testing of the samples to the characteristics of the bituminous mixes and adapting the test to the traffic and the climate existing in Spain. Modifications carried out with respect to the British standard concern the system of compaction of the samples, the contact pressure between the wheel and sample, temperature and duration of the test; the frequency and the pattern of forward and backward movement are maintained constant.
