CAPABILITIES OF CHILDREN ON THE ROADS. DEVELOPMENT OF PERCEPTION IN CHILDREN AND ITS RELEVANCE TO TRAFFIC BEHAVIOUR

LEISTUNGSMOEGLICHKEITEN VON KINDERN IM STRASSENVERKEHR. ENTWICKLUNG DER WAHRNEHMUNG BEI KINDERN IN IHRER RELEVANZ ZUM VERKEHRSVERHALTEN

The introduction deals with aspects of present-day knowledge of the development of perception. This is followed by studies of reports on visual perception, aural perception and more complex perception. The test subjects were various groups of students between 6 and 13 years old. The results obtained are classified into those which indicate an increasingly better performance as a function of age, those which indicate worse performance with younger and older children than with those in the medium age range, and those which indicate differences related to sex. In a series of performances improvements were established after relatively little practice. In individual studies there was a peak in the development curve of 9-10 year old children. Conclusions which have a bearing on traffic education are drawn from the study. (TRRL)
