The car tested has a series-coupled motor with movable brushes to regulate rpm between 1000 and 4000. A series resistance is used for starting, and the car is fitted with a slip clutch which fully engages the motor at about 1000 rpm. Output is 9 kw continuous, i.e. 8.2 kgfm at 1067 rpm and 2.2 kgfm at 4000 rpm. The battery comprising 12 6V units is of 180 ah rated capacity. Weight is 372 kg. A charging unit is incorporated and needs only to be plugged in. Initial charging current is 20 a which drops to 10 a at 80% charge. When 2.36 V has been reached, charger switches to trickle charge of 4-5 a. Auxiliary 12 V batteries are charbed similarly. The chassis is SAAB Sonett, the roof volvo 142. Range in town traffic is 50-60 km. Overall weight of car is 1200 kg. Acceleration is 0-30 km/h in 11 seconds, 0-50 km/h in 30 seconds. Top speed is about 70 km/h. (TRRL)
