SIGHT TEST FOR OLDER DRIVING LICENCE HOLDERS - AN ANALYSIS OF THE PRESENT SITUATION

ZUM SEHTEST FUER AELTERE FAHRERLAUBNISINHABER-EINE ANALYSE DER JETZIGEN SITUATION

The author draws on tables of statistics which are concerned with holders of class 3 driving licences, drivers involved in accidents and drivers killed per 100000 inhabitants, broken down according to age groups, to show that the group of older driving licence holders are to blame for accidents more than the average. They are also represented more than average in the drivers killed in accidents in built up areas. The author feels that, as a precaution, older drivers should be subject to a compulsory sight test to ensure tht their sight hs not been impaired with age. (TRRL)
