A REVIEW OF SOME FOUNDATION CONSTRUCTION PROBLEMS

An account is given of some problems experienced in bridge foundation construction encountered by the author. The cases described cover internally driven tube piles and large diameter bored cylinders. In the case of the tube piles examples of hydraulicking, tube failure and driving nose failure are discussed. In the case of bored cylinders problems with casing sinking, plugging and belling are discussed. (Author)
