This report is in two parts. Part 1 deals with the design of a traffic control system for the tunnel access roads and tunnel in Bruchs. The aim of the installation is: (1) to divert traffic along the existing alignment; (2) to detect and divert exceptionally large vehicles; (3) to change traffic direction or prohibit traffic on one of the three lanes in the tunnel. Details are given of the system and of the operation of control and detection devices. Part 2 describes the installation of an automatic control system with linked traffic signals giving priority at any time to vehicles travelling in the direction of the heaviest flow.
