CONTRIBUTION TO THE THEORY OF DESIGN OF FOUNDATIONS FOR RETAINING WALLS

PRILOG TEORIJI PRORACUNA TEMELJA POTPORNIH ZIDOVA

In this paper the author demonstrates an original method of establishing stresses and strains in a rigid strip foundation under the action of an inclined, eccentric force. The assumption is made that the base consists of elastic, homogeneous and isotropic layer of limited thickness. The method of final elements was applied to obtain a solution. Easy formulae are given for determining settlement, movement and rotation of a foundation and also tables with appropriate coefficients. The solution of the set task constitutes a valuable contribution to the problem of the design of retaining walls, which will serve for easy and quick decisions in practice. (TRRL)
