A POLICY FOR MORE EFFICIENT STREET LIGHTING

Due to the large increase in the cost of electricity between the years 1974 and 1975 various economic measures were considered by Humberside County Council for reducing annual maintenance costs to improve cost effectiveness for street lighting. The Council embarked on a programme of street lighting conversion to promote energy saving by changing to a more efficient discharge lamp. The options examined are described together with the method of financial appraisal. A discussion is presented on the financial and other benefits obtained from implementation of a policy of energy saving on public lighting. (TRRL)
