SCALE EFFECT EXPERIMENTS WITH DUCTED PROPELLERS
Experiments carried out at the Swedish State Shipbuilding Experimental Tank (SSPA)indicate that some difficulties encountered are due to flow separation occurring on the duct in the self propulsion tests. These experiments, including the following are described in the present paper: self-propulsion tests with a systematic series of ducted propellers; self-propulsion tests with turbulence stimulators on the duct; and thrust and torque measurements in open water and in the behind condition at varying Reynolds numbers in the SSPA cavitation tunnel No. 2. The conditions of flow separation on the duct are discussed and a short description of a fundamental investigation in progress at SSPA is given. Order from BSRA as No. 53,371.
