THE INFLUENCE OF FUTURE FUELS ON SELECTION OF DIESEL ENGINES
The Author, and Engineer Surveyor from Lloyd's Register of Shipping, considers that today's highly rated engines, operating consistently and efficiently on residual fuels, are being subjected to a gradual decline in fuel-oil quality. An important area of concern is thus the engine's ability to cope efficiently with combustion of this poor fuel. Examples of future fuel specificatons are given in a table. The type of engine most capable of coping with these conditions is evaluated on the basis of the research and development results of engine manufacturers. Wear to fuel-oil contents is also discussed.
