REGENERATION AND RECOVERY OF ENERGY IN AN UNDERGROUND NETWORK BY THE USE OF THYRISTORS
RIGENERAZIONE E RECUPERO DI ENERGIA IN UNA RETE METROPOLITANA GRAZIE ALL'IMPIEGO DEI TIRISTORI
The very high frequency of trains in underground tunnels (especially at peak hours) gives rise to problems of energy dissipation. The use of thyristors enables energy to be regenerated and returned (as direct current) to the supply line during braking. This energy is then available to following trains in the process of acceleration. A process of energy recovery has also been developed whereby the energy available during the braking of one or more trains in the network is converted to alternating current which feeds the substations. The two systems are fully described, and illustrated by circuit diagrams.
