AN INVESTIGATION ON THE DEGRADATION OF SPRING CLIPS USED ON SHINKANSEN

Elastic fastenings are invariably used with long welded rails and concrete sleepers laid on modern tracks. Their long-term viability depends on their service life span. JNR has carried out tests to evaluate the physical resistance and performance of spring clips used on the Shinkansen and the findings suggest that their life cycle can be put at longer than the 10-15 years for which they were originally designed.
