CAR SEATS ON THE TEST RIG

AUTOSITZE AUF DEM PRUEFSTAND

12 production line car seats and the headrests supplied with them were tested. They were made by the most important car manufacturers on the German market. As well as testing handling, comfort, seating position and durability, the object was to determine whether production line car seats are safe enough and able to support the protective action of safety belts. Of the 12 seats, 5 were denoted as defective with respect to protection in a frontal collision, because the test dummy submarined under the belt. 3 other seats were denoted as defective as regards protection in a rear end collision, because the backrests were weak. It is hoped that the manufacturers will act on the results. (TRRL)
