It is pointed out in this paper that the main limitations of several marine operations and a great part of the marine accidents are due to rough weather. Real time statistical analysis carried out for control and monitoring purposes under marine operations is briefly discussed. Some principles for short time prediction, positioning and trend detection are mentioned. Experimental determination of transfer functions by statistical analysis of random ship motion is demonstrated. Short and long term statistical models for wave loads are discussed and appliction to fatigue and estimation of overloading failure probability is shown. Order from NSFI as No. 19517.
