OAKLAND TEST BED FOR MARAD DATA FLOW SYSTEM
As part of a joint venture between the US Maritime Administration (MARAD) and Marine Terminals Corporation (MTC), a new computer-controlled information system is being installed at MTC's Seventh Street container terminal in the port of Oakland, California. The system, which is being developed by ARINC Research Corporation of Annapolis, Maryland, is designed to automate the processing of information utilised in the operation of a public marine container terminal. Intended to operate in an on-line, realtime environment, the system is due to be fully operational by April 1981, and will be capable of automatically providing a virtually unlimited statistical analysis of the terminal's operation. This article outlines the development and objectives of this particular project.
