THE SIGNIFICANCE OF IMPERFECTIONS IN WELDED STRUCTURES
Existing acceptance standards for weld imperfections in ships and offshore structures are reviewed. Alternative approaches are described based on fracture mechanics. Failure modes caused by fracture and fatigue are discussed. Fracture is seen as a problem of material selection and fatigue one of design. Order from NSFI as No. 19496.
