DEVELOPMENT IN DESIGN PROCEDURE FOR MARINE STRUCTURES

Design procedure and structural analysis of marine structures are discussed with reference to the environmental conditions, wave motions and loads, structural response, safety evaluation and calibration against service experience. Considerations for developing practical methods are emphasized, stressing needs for compromises with respect to safety level and cost, variation in degree of computerization and education, and balance of accuracy of different steps of analysis. The present analysis methods are reviewed and discussed together with recommendations for research and further development. Order from NSFI as No. 19498.
