INTERFERENCE ON THE PUBLIC ELECTRICITY NETWORK FROM AC TRACTION-SIMPLIFIED PREDICTION

The current taken by single phase ac traction has a distorted waveform and is unbalanced on the three phases. Consequently the supply voltage to other consumers could contain these undesirable features, even to the extent of causing unsatisfactory operation of equipment. Electricity supply utilities therefore need to predict the likely levels of harmonics and negative phase sequence, but it is apparently complicated and time-consuming. This paper describes an efficient method.
