SOVIET FLEET GROWTH
This article briefly analyzes the tremendous growth of the Soviet merchant fleet in recent years. It includes a number of tables showing the composition of the Soviet cargo-carrying fleet (vessels over 100 grt) for mid-1979, in particular the tanker and dry cargo fleets. There is also a discussion of future prospects for the Soviet merchant fleet and its relation to the expansion of the Soviet economy, as well as its impact on Western shipping.
