SIMPLIFIED PASSIVE EARTH PRESSURE ANALYSIS
In this note, a simple approach using the method of slices is proposed for estimating passive earth pressure coefficients. Inclinations of the interslice forces are varied linearly from the Rankine value in the Rankine zone to the wall friction angle over the length of curved rupture surface. For purely frictional soils, resultant passive earth pressure coefficients agree closely with those obtained using the method of stress characteristics and upper bound limit analysis.
