IN-SITU VOLUME-CHANGE PROPERTIES BY ELECTRO-OSMOSIS-- EVALUATION

A method of in-situ testing using electro-osmosis to obtain mass consolidation properties of fine-grained soils under load was evaluated by experimental studies conducted in the laboratory under controlled conditions. A clay sample, prepared inside a specially designed test chamber by isotropically consolidating a bag of slurry, with a model testing probe inserted in it was tested. Consolidation parameters obtained by the new method were found to compare favorably with values deduced from the results of direct consolidation tests. (AUTHORS)
