ENGINEERING STRUCTURES: (2) PRESTRESSED CONCRETE STRUCTURES-STUDY OF THE ANCHORAGE OF A PRESTRESSING CABLE BY BOSSING

LES OUVRAGES D'ART: 2) OUVRAGES EN BETON PRECONTRAINT - ETUDE DE L'ANCRAGE D'UN CABLE DE PRECONTRAINTE PAR BOSSAGE

The three-dimensional problem of the anchorage of a prestressing cable by bossing in a thin member is studied by two methods: finite element method and a full-scale test on a reinforced concrete member with free edges. The finite element method enabled the results to be compared with existing methods for the butt joints of girders as regards the zone under the anchorage plate. The full-scale test facilitated the transposition of elastic design results to the case of reinforced concrete and the definition of the main stresses in the member. In particular the importance of the effects of longitudinal and transverse bending are clearly shown. Lastly the two methods of calculation adopted for solving this problem are described together with an application to the case of perfect restraint of the edges of the plate. (TRRL)
